Reducing Pain: Study Shows Mussel Powder and Oil Effective

As you'll see from this published study, it has been shown that arthritis can be treated with the lipid (a fat-soluble, naturally-occurring molecule) extract of Perna Canaliculus (the green-lipped mussel). This study used two forms that were available at the time, Lyprinol, a lipid extract and a powder made from raw green-lipped mussels.

Both of these were shown to be effective in treating arthritis.

Imagine being able to relieve the pain without killing the patient! That's absolutely wonderful.

When you are in pain, you will do just about anything. But now there are alternatives to pharmaceuticals such as NAISDs and cortesteriods with their gastrotoxic and lyphopenic side-effects. Many pharmaceutical anti-inflammatory drugs have been linked to increased risk of heart attack!

So the news is very good and gets better.

There are now available even more powerful forms of this natural anti-inflammatory that is certified free of heavy metals, pesticides and PCBs.

We'll be posting here all the latest information about these anti-inflammatory nutraceuticals and what the scientific research clearly says about them.

The Treatment of Arthritis with a Lipid Extract of Perna Canaliculus: a Randomised Trial

S.L.M. Gibson, R.G. Gibson, Glasgow Homoeopathic Hospital, Glasgow, UK, (1998)

The object of this study was to compare the efficacy of a lipid extract of Lyprinol™ stabilised green lipped mussel (perna canaliculus) with the raw stabilised green lipped mussel powder to ascertain if the particular lipids were in fact the active components.

Stabilised mussel powder from Biomex Australia was used as they provide the only patented stabilising process that can guarantee consistent potency.

Conclusion:

Both the stabilised freeze dried mussel powder and its derived lipid extract are effective in reducing pain, swelling and stiffness and in improving functional index in rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, although the Lyprinol extract achieved a more rapid response. This shows that the lipid extract Lyprinol comprises the principal active components from the mussel powder.
