I'd been searching for a natural anti-inflammatory for a long time and a friend pointed me to green-lipped mussels, long eaten by coastal New Zealand tribes (who suffer almost no arthritis or heart disease). After doing extensive research into my friend's recommendation, I decided to try a supplement called Moxxor, which is made from the oil extracted from green-lipped mussels.
This particular supplement also contains grapeseed oil, a potent antioxidant and Kiwifruit seed oil, a complete vitamin E complex. Scientific studies suggest that grapeseed oil helps reduce oxidative stress and has potent anti-cancer potential as well.
Here are portions from my log regarding the results I experienced taking this marine oil with natural anti-inflammatory benefits.
To better understand the profound changes that took place in my life during the first month of taking this natural anti-inflammatory, I thought it would be helpful to share my health inventory, a list of complaints I had prior to taking Moxxor. I apologize in advance for taking you through this litany of complaints. My hope is that it will provide a frame of reference to better see how Moxxor Green Lipped Mussel Oil has impacted my life.
The pain shoots down from the shoulder to the elbow in both arms. Putting on my shirt can leave me in pain for anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes. I have to sit down and just breathe. Sometimes it's so bad it clouds my vision and I have to shut my eyes. I have to ask my wife for help to take my T-shirts off as doing so by myself can be extremely painful.
I have had tendinitis for over 33 years and about a year ago I somehow developed a rotator-cuff tear in my right shoulder.
At night it’s a whole process just to change my sleeping position. I'm sure some of you know what I'm talking about. I have to move the position of the pillow too, and do it in such a way that I don't hurt my shoulders in the process. For about the last five months, I haven't been able to sleep on my stomach facing left. I can't raise either of my arms above my shoulders.
About 25 years ago I was pushing our car out of the garage when I slipped and hurt my back. That was the beginning of a very painful and debilitating fight to remain mobile and pain free.
I was told I'd have to take an anti-inflammatory, NSAIDs, for the pain by my well- meaning doctor friends. A holistic sports therapist suggested I stay in bed for three days and let my back heal naturally without NSAIDs, using ice as a natural anti-inflammatory, which I did.
I recovered and with exercises (yoga) I have been able to control this problem, and have only had a few bouts serious enough to land me in bed for up to a three-day stay.
I try to be faithful with my exercises, but most of the time I feel something on a scale ranging from discomfort to pain in my back the day after exercising. I'm anxious to see if with Moxxor, a product with purported natural anti-inflammatory properties, I'll be able to exercise more without pain.
Again, I apologize for subjecting you to all my aches and pains, but it’s like a "before" and "after" picture so when you read about the changes I’ve experienced since starting to take Moxxor, you’ll see the difference!
Okay, without further ado, here are excerpts of my log.
Friday, December 19, 2008 - Day 1
I took my first capsule of Moxxor at 11 am. The little capsule went down just fine.
Saturday, December 20, 2008 - Day 2
I took my second single capsule of Moxxor at 8:30 am. No adverse reaction. No burps. No upset stomach. The pills are tiny and almost go down without water.
I haven’t noticed any natural anti-inflammatory effects yet in these first two days. I’ve heard that some people observe fantastic results almost immediately, and with others it can take up to three weeks or more for the benefits to become observable.
I'm taking one capsule at a time just to be sure I don't have any allergic reaction or discomfort from the supplement. I've never eaten shellfish, so I'm not sure if I might be allergic or not. (The makers of Moxxor claim that it's perfectly safe for those with shellfish allergies to take this supplement because the oil is processed in a way that removes 100% of the shellfish proteins and carbohydrates from the oil. If in doubt, consult with your qualified healthcare professional. )
I used to take fish oil supplements years ago, and still remember the discomfort trying to swallow those huge 1000mg capsules. I hurt my throat several times trying to get the capsules down.
Even worse than the size of the capsule was the smell. Just opening the bottle would turn my stomach. Then there were the after-burps that smelled terrible too.
I eventually stopped taking all fish oil products after learning about how oils are especially susceptible to oxidation. None of the companies provided any credible assurances that their fish oil wasn't rancid. Those fish oil capsules smelled rancid, and that was enough for me to stop taking them in spite of their natural anti-inflammatory benefits.
If the oils really were rancid, which now I know they were, I figured that it was like stepping on the gas with one foot and the brake with the other. In other words, I’d probably get some benefits from the fish oil, but along with those benefits, I’d be putting toxins in my body because of the rancidity, which could easily bring on other problems. So I stopped taking fish oil and searched for other natural anti-inflammatory foods and supplements.
Sunday, December 21, 2008 - Day 3
Today I took two Moxxor capsules, one in the early morning and the other before lunch. [You'll notice that I was very cautious starting out with Moxxor. I suppose it's a good habit to start slowly. I have since learned that it's a good idea to take more capsules, 4 or even 6 a day for the first two weeks, and then slowly decrease the amount. This allows your body to recover from deficiency and heal faster.]
Monday, December 22, 2008 - Day 4
Today is my fourth day taking Moxxor. I realized that I was able to sleep on my stomach with my head facing the left without pain for the first time in 5 months. That's nice! (Could it be that this oil really is a natural anti-inflammatory?)
Friday, December 27, 2008 - Day 9
I just realized that I haven't been groaning in the night when I turn over or change positions. My shoulders still hurt, but it's not that tremendous pain that causes me to cry out and wake my wife. The pain seems to be diminishing, and I'm sleeping a bit better as a result.
I started taking Moxxor, usually two a day, one week ago yesterday.
Sunday, January 11, 2009 - Day 24
Today I feel great!
At the end of the afternoon, I decided to go to the beach to do my exercises. I took off walking and felt so very good. It takes me about 10 minutes to reach the beach from our home.
Once at the beach, I took my shoes off and walked in the sand. I felt so good that I decided to just jog a bit in the sand. I figured that since it was in the sand, it wouldn’t hurt my back. I planned to jog maybe 100 meters and then walk. But what happened was amazing!
I ended up jogging all the way down to the end of the beach. That's 1500 meters (almost a mile). I kept thinking that I'd stop any time and walk the rest of the way. But I didn't. I ended up jogging all the way to the end of the beach.
I wasn't even panting! I felt great. I had been planning to rest at the end of the beach and then return walking. But I felt so good I did 45 minutes of exercises, swam for a bit, and turned around to walk home, but ended up jogging all the way back to the other end of the beach! This is the most I’ve jogged since my son, who is now the father of teenagers, was 5 years old!
When I got home and told my wife, she was a little concerned. She knows me; I tend to overdo things at times and then pay for it the next day. I assured her that I felt fine, and that I hadn’t felt out of breath once, nor had any pains whatsoever in my chest.
We'll see how I feel tomorrow. I’ve been taking Moxxor for 23 days now.
Monday, January 12, 2009 - Day 25
I slept very well last night. Not a lot of turning and tossing, and no pain!
I awoke with no pain in my legs, knees, back, or chest, even after all that jogging yesterday!!
I had to go to the bank in the early afternoon and ended up jogging there and back! That was about 2 kilometers.
Tuesday, January 13, 2009 - Day 26
Well, it's a beautiful day and I awoke early, full of energy. I decided to go to the beach again before starting on my work. I planned to take it easy, not being sure whether there would be some sort of delayed reaction to all this physical activity.
But when I hit the beach I just had to jog! I thought I'd jog just a little and walk the rest of the way. I really didn't want to push myself too much.
I felt so good that I ended up going all the way to the end of the beach, doing exercises, swimming, and jogging all the way back again! This is fantastic. I feel full of energy!
Oh yes, my shoulders are much better too. I'm sleeping better. No big pains in the night at all. I have more mobility with my shoulders. As a matter of fact, I've started learning Tai Chi, something I've wanted to do for years.
Moxxor has not totally taken away all the pain, but the pain is definitely less than before. I only take two Moxxor capsules a day. I imagine that if I were to take three or four a day, the effects would be greater. I'm a patient man, so I'm letting this natural anti-inflammatory do its thing slowly.[If you do have serious pain that doesn't go away with taking two capsules a day, try three or four or more per day and see what happens. There are no negative side effects to taking more, so doing so certainly won't hurt you any and may just bring about the relief you are looking for.]
Tuesday, January 24, 2009 - Day 37
Because of the rains this last week I haven't been jogging, but I have been doing lots of Tai Chi, and my shoulders are doing great. It's been two weeks since I started practicing Tai Chi.
I believe what has happened is that the natural anti-inflammatory properties of this marine oil have reduced the pain caused by inflammation in the tendons so that I don't have what is called tendonitis anymore, but I do still have another injury called a rotator cuff tear.
Evidently this kind of injury takes longer to heal. As a matter of fact, they pretty much say that it won't heal without an operation or some kind of direct intervention. I’ll keep you posted as to how Moxxor does with this challenge. [2015 update: I have now totally recovered the use of my shoulders and have complete range of movement in both shoulders with no limitations. I never did operate or use any pharmaceutical drugs.]
At least I can sleep well at night and am able to run, exercise, and do Tai Chi. (Now this is just a guess, but I imagine that Tai Chi is also a natural anti-inflammatory because it reduces stress and tension and re-establishes the body's energy balance. This should also help these pains diminish naturally.)
Sunday, February 1, 2009 - Day 45
I awoke to another beautiful day for the beach, so I ran to the beach, did exercises, swam, and ran home. That's a bit less than other days, but it was too hot and sunny to do more. :) It's wonderful to be able to enjoy the exercise. It feels so good and I have no pain afterwards!! That makes it easier to decide to exercise, knowing that it's not going to hurt afterwards! I'm doing Tai Chi every day as well with no problems with my shoulders.
Stay tuned, as I'll keep updating this natural anti-inflammatory story page. Read part 2 now. I hope you can benefit from my personal experience with Moxxor.
